Retail achievers who exude passion and ambition are urged to enter the 2016 Worldpay everywoman in Retail Ambassador programme, which launches today. This initiative champions and promotes women in retail and increases awareness of the diverse range of opportunities for women in retail, inspiring more women to consider a career in this industry.

Retail is the UK’s largest private sector employer. It currently employs 2.77 million people and has a predominantly female workforce. However only 5% of women occupy the senior decision-making roles. This is why the 2016 Worldpay everywoman in Retail Ambassador Programme was devised – to celebrate successful women in order to encourage others to become future retail leaders.

In the next 2 years alone, retail sales in the UK are expected to grow to £443.25 billion.* And online retail expenditure in the UK is forecast to grow by 44.9% in the coming 5 years to reach £62.7 billion in 2020.** These figures highlight the growth in this industry, and the immense number of opportunities that will be arising over the next few years. Women need to be encouraged to take advantage of the prospects that will arise from this growth.

Maxine Benson, co-founder of everywoman comments: “We are very proud to be working with Worldpay and supporting organisations that place an importance on developing the talent of women working in the retail industry and who value role model ambassadors who will inspire others to bring their talent to the sector. Retail offers an amazing opportunity for women who want to further their careers and achieve their potential. This programme champions  exceptional women whether at the start of their career or at the top of their game and we are proud to shine a light on them.”

Jo Baker, Chief Finance Officer Worldpay UK continues “Worldpay is proud to be supporting everywoman for another year and we’re delighted to be sponsoring the everywoman in Retail Ambassador Programme. At Worldpay we’re in a privileged position to work with hundreds of thousands of retailers of all sizes across the UK, helping them take card payments instore, online and on the move. I’m looking forward to hearing the inspirational stories of some of the women who are excelling in this dynamic sector and celebrating their success on a national stage.”

The deadline for applications is 9 May and women are encouraged to apply at the earliest possible opportunity. Last year’s Ambassadors featured women from all over the country, of all ages and with different skillsets and roles, ranging from management in national multiple retailers to the founders of innovative boutique brands. Women can enter themselves, or be nominated by others and it is free to enter here.

The chosen Ambassadors will be announced at an Awards ceremony and dinner at The Langham, London on 13th September 2016. For further information regarding the programme and to secure your table and tickets please visit here.
