Retail Recycling Champions enter the 2015 recycling ‘Oscars’

Have you got what it takes to win one of the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management?

The Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management are inviting green heroes from the high street to celebrate their achievements. The Retail Recycling Champion Award, won last year by Westfield Shopping Centre in Stratford, recognises the best environmental efforts in British retail.

Steve Eminton, editor of letsrecycle.com, said: “The growing popularity of the Awards for Excellence demonstrates the growth in recycling as a standard business practice. Last year saw entries from a wide range of retailers including shopping centres, chains of stores and single high street shops. The Awards celebrate those who are leading the field and delivering excellent sustainability in waste management.”

The Retail Recycling Champion Award is given for best practice. This could be a front-of-store campaign to recycle old products or even packaging. Alternatively the work might be taking place back-of-house, delivering waste reduction through the supply chain or staff engagement.

Steve Eminton continued, “The retail sector has a vital role to play in encouraging sustainability because it is so visible. Retailers have a fantastic opportunity to communicate about recycling and promote best practice in the supply chain, as well as in customers’ shopping and recycling behaviour.”

Judges are looking for ambition, innovation and evidence of the success of retail schemes. The awards ceremony is open to all entrants and offers a fantastic chance for networking, inspiration and sharing best practice.

The Awards organised by the Environment Media Group are free to enter. The deadline for entries is Thursday 19th March 2015 and this year’s eleven categories are:
• Retail recycling champion
• Circular economy success
• Waste management initiative in the commercial and public sector
• Design of a waste management facility, sponsored by the Environmental Services Association
• Collection crew of the year
• The best community recycling initiative
• Recycling business of the year, sponsored by Ceris Burns International
• Civic amenity site of the year, sponsored by REPIC
• The best local authority recycling initiative
• Local authority recycling champion, sponsored by Biffa
• Zero waste platinum award, sponsored by SAICA Natur and Wastecare

All finalists will receive two free tickets to the glittering awards ceremony on Thursday 14th May 2015 at the five-star Landmark Hotel in London. It’s one of the best days in the recycling and waste management events calendar and attracts top directors, employers and investors. Good luck and we look forward to seeing you in May!
