Retail Design Expo 2016 to launch a VM Students Awards
London, 5th August 2015 – The new VM Students Awards form part of Retail Design Expo, the specialist retail event bringing together the very finest exponents of retail design, visual merchandising, branding and in-store experience. The scheme is intended to encourage and support new talent and to recognize students’ achievements in the field of Visual Merchandising.
Students from three colleges will take part in the contest, with those from London College of Fashion, University of the Arts, London (UAL), taking a brief from Liberty; Chelsea College of Art and Design, (UAL) taking a brief from Oasis and Regent’s University taking a brief from Browns.
The brief will call for entrants to design a mobile pop-up store to contain a section of the store collection in a location selected by the retailer. The concept aims to be a visual showcase enshrining the brand tropes and values to introduce it to new and existing markets and ultimately build customer awareness and excitement.
Joanna Galanis, VM & Display Director at Browns said, “ We are really keen to encourage and support young talent. A competition as such, will enable the students to use their VM skills to create something ultimately bespoke that will be tailored to the Browns’ Bride image and therefore make the profession visible to new graduates. Galanis continued, “This competition should be viewed as a multi-disciplinary experience and a platform for the students to use their innovation, in order to visualise the concept of the pop-up store and publicise the skills of VM professionals.’
Work by shortlisted entrants will be judged by a panel that includes Liberty Head of Visual Identity Liz Sylvester, Oasis Creative Director Tula Anastasiades and Oasis International Visual Merchandise Manager Hannah Wakeford, Browns VM Director Joanna Galanis, Legend Visual Merchandising Content Director Dr. Valerie Wilson Trower and Retail Design World Editor Matthew Valentine.
Winners will be announced at the Retail Design Expo
All shortlisted work will be displayed at the exhibition and the three winners will be announced on the first day of the conference.
The prize will consist of paid work placements at Liberty, Oasis and Browns.
