Record number of entries for 2015 Surface Design Awards

62% increase described as ‘phenomenal’ by organisers

A third of entries are for overseas projects

Entries closed for the 2015 Surface Design Awards with a 62% increase in projects submitted.
Now in its third year the Awards have rapidly grown to become the UK’s leading award scheme to recognise innovation in surface design.

181 entries were received for the 11 award categories with a third of all entries being for international projects outside the UK. France, Ireland, UAE, USA, South Africa and Finland were the countries with most projects submitted.

“The response has been phenomenal,” said Awards Director, Christopher Newton. “Our panel of judges now has the really difficult task of selecting the finalists from a large number of very innovative projects.”

The judging panel will be Co-Chaired by architect Sarah Featherstone from Featherstone Young and editor Theresa Dowling from FX magazine. Judges include: Ralph Courteney, Jonathan Dunn Architects; Nicola Osborn, MoreySmith; Adam Richards, Adam Richards Architects; Annalie Riches, Riches Hawley Mikhail; Maria Smith, Studio Weave and Sharon Stammers and Martin Lupton, Light Collective.

The Award categories cover projects in Retail, Commercial, Housing, Public Building, Light and Surfaces and Temporary Structures.

The Awards presentation will take place on Thursday 12th February 2015 at the Business Design Centre in London the last day of Surface Design Show.
