Miller developments bring home bargains to Altrincham

Miller Developments has recently handed over 11,000 sqft of retail space for fit out to Home Bargains, the retail anchor tenant of its £10 million redevelopment of the Grafton Centre in Altrincham.

The leading UK retailer has signed a 15 year-lease for 11,000sqft of retail space and is on target to be trading by the Spring.

Mark Hewett, Retail Development Director for Miller Developments said: “We are delighted to welcome Home Bargains to the Grafton Centre.

“As a national retailer, Home Bargains is testament to the quality of the scheme and the space available.  It is expected that Home Bargains will create up to 45 new jobs within the town, and that many more will be created following the letting of the remaining retail units.  We are having active discussions with a number of retailers regarding the remaining units, which will be available for hand over at Easter.

“Upon completion the entire development will be a catalyst for the regeneration of Altrincham town centre.  We are working very closely with Trafford Council to make way for regeneration in the Altrincham area and we look forward to announcing new tenants in the near future.”

Joe Morris, operations director at Home Bargains, commented: “Home Bargains is excited to be opening this new store in Altrincham building further on the success across the North West and providing up to 45 jobs for the local area. The Grafton Centre will be a great location for us – we’re thrilled to be in a position to offer local people even more top branded goods at exceptionally low prices!”

Miller Developments purchased the Grafton Centre from insolvency firm MCR in March 2011, and has undertaken a significant remodeling and refurbishment of the ground floor.  The former office block, attached to the Grafton Centre, has been converted to a 91 bed hotel which will be operated by Travelodge which is due to open at Easter.

Corporate Director for Economic Growth and Prosperity Nick Gerrard said: “I am pleased that the redevelopment of the Grafton Centre is really starting to take shape. This demonstrates the level confidence in Altrincham and its residents with local job creation. The centre will substantially increase the number of visitors to the town centre who will also help support the retailers and the evening economy.”

The interest in the Grafton Centre by national retailers confirms Miller Developments vision, along with Travelodge and Trafford Council, for the creation of a new mixed use development for Altrincham.
