MAPLIN TO OPEN FIRST AIRPORT STORE IN GLASGOW

Electronics specialist retailer Maplin has invested £100,000 in a brand new, 1,000sq ft store at Glasgow Airport. The store will open on Saturday 1st March. 

As Maplin’s first airport store, the store will be given an initial one year trial. This will provide an opportunity to test a new store model, whilst showcasing and raising awareness of the Maplin brand. 

This new model is designed to encourage customer browse time; with people having more time at airports to peruse products at their leisure and consider potential purchases. The store’s in-store experts will also be able to provide advice on all aspects of technology and electronics.

Customers will find a tailored range of products to help promote the company’s wide range; including an extended range of tablet accessories, phone accessories and 3D printers.

The new store will feature three interactive internet hubs where shoppers can browse Maplin’s full range. Customers will also be able to spend time at a play table, featuring fun products such as Maplin’s Raspberry Pi and a 3D printer.

Furthermore, the store will also offer a click-and-collect service enabling travellers returning to Glasgow to pick up orders, or get them delivered to their homes. 

John Cleland, CEO at Maplin, said: “With 7.4million passengers passing through Glasgow Airport last year, it’s evident that this is a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of the Maplin brand. Customers can spend some time browsing in the store whilst they wait for their flight, enjoying some of the new interactive features the store offers. Our Maplineers, in-store experts, will be happy to help customers with any questions they might have, and if they don’t want to take their purchase on their travels with them we can deliver it to their homes once they return.”
