Londoners donate their ‘Electronic’ Pennies at Drake & Morgan 10,000 times to help inner-city kids

Customers enjoying a meal in Drake & Morgan’s bar and restaurants have donated their ‘spare electronic change’ 10,000 times to help raise £5,000 for inner-city children thanks to an innovative fundraising initiative.

The London-based group recently partnered with Pennies, the electronic charity box, to allow customers paying by card in their restaurants to add a 50p donation to their bill, which will go towards the Plate Pledge at Kids Company.

Drake & Morgan joins a number of other national retailers and many smaller businesses already getting behind the Pennies movement which brings the old habit of dropping your change into the charity box up to date for card transactions. 4.5 million donations have been received since Pennies launched a couple of years ago, raising £1,000,000 for 60 charities.

Jillian MacLean, MD of Drake & Morgan, commented: “We’re delighted to be working with Pennies across our restaurants – it’s a very clever idea and has been well received by our customers. We’ve found that it’s an easy way for them to donate money to a charity which is close to our hearts, Kids Company, and we’re looking forward to raising more money for vulnerable inner-city children.”

Jane Caldwell of Kids Company said: “Drake & Morgan’s use of this innovative new fundraising scheme is already benefiting the children who come to Kids Company in need of practical and emotional support. We’d like to encourage all their customers to donate this way as together their pennies can make a huge difference.”

Alison Hutchinson, CEO of The Pennies Foundation said: “It’s fantastic news that Drake & Morgan are donating in their thousands and jumped at the opportunity to support a London charity.  I look forward to the next 10,000 donations making a further difference to the great work of Kids Company.”

Customers can donate via Pennies in five Drake & Morgan locations, the refinery on Bankside, the parlour in Canary Wharf and The Folly, The Anthologist and the drift in the City.  For more information please visit www.pennies.org.uk
