Local Olympian supports winning retailers


Sporting sensation and Olympic gold medalist Tessa Sanderson CBE was the star guest at the recent Walthamstow Retailer Awards.

The sporting heroine, who won gold for javelin, pledged her support for the winners at the Mall’s annual awards ceremony.

Tessa, who helped present the awards at a glittering ceremony staged at Leyton Orient Football Club, congratulated retailers on providing an excellent service to their customers.

Tessa said: “I was delighted to be asked to help present The Mall Retailer Awards.  As someone who is local to the area, I understand the importance of community events and it is wonderful to recognise those businesses that have gone the extra mile to deliver excellent service to their customers.

“It’s tough on the High Street but these guys are making a real difference.”

Categories at the awards ceremony included Best Customer Experience, won by The Body Shop and boutique Choice scooped the Shoppers Choice award.

More than 125 guests attended the glamorous event, including the Mall management, sponsors, suppliers and retail managers with their teams. A charity auction and raffle on the night raised more than £200 for local charity Community Links.

Alasdair Currie, General Manager, The Mall Walthamstow said: “The evening was a great success. These annual awards are the ideal opportunity to recognise and reward the fantastic work all our retailers are doing to ensure customers at The Mall have the best possible shopping experience.”
