John Lewis in-store Beauty Spa concept

With sales of beauty products at John Lewis achieving a 14 per cent increase on last year, the store has announced plans to launch a new in-store beauty spa concept. The spa boutique, a first of its kind for the department store, will open in its Reading and Cheadle department stores this summer.

The new beauty spa concept has been developed over the past year to enhance John Lewis’s shopping experience and is a direct response to demand from customers. The spa will offer treatments such as facials, manicures, pedicures, eyebrow/eyelash tinting and threading from a host of premium brands including Clarins, Elemis, Liz Earle, Decleor, Blink and Jessica.

The beauty spa concept forms part of John Lewis’s long term growth strategy, which commits to investing in existing department stores. This year, refurbishment projects are scheduled in three department stores – Norwich, Cheadle and Reading.

The retailer has earmarked a record £250 million pounds for investment in 2011 for existing department stores, new shop openings, e-commerce and infrastructure and the development of innovative retail concepts. John Lewis will also create more than 1,200 jobs with new shop openings, including a full-line department store in Stratford this September, and two more ‘at home’ shops in Exeter and Chester in the autumn.

John Lewis managing director Andy Street said: ‘We are committed to investing in our existing shops, creating the best possible shopping environment for our customers and finding new ways to add to our customers’ shopping experience. The beauty spa concept is the start of a more holistic service offering to customers, and our investment means we can continue to improve the customer experience by adding new and exciting concepts.’

Head of beauty and accessories, Amanda Scott, said: ‘We’re really excited to be launching this new concept, which will give our customers the opportunity to experience our beauty products in a more in-depth way. By offering a wide range of brands and treatments, for both women and men, John Lewis will be adding another dimension to what is already a market-leading Beauty offer. Customers can expect to see exclusive face and body treatments, massages, manicures, pedicures, eyebrow threading, false lashes, tanning and waxing.’
