Harrods Employee Gets into Gear for Charity Cycle

Harrods employee, Aidan Lewer from Bexley, Kent and a team of 20 riders set off today on a 300 mile adventure from Harrods, Knightsbridge to Amsterdam in aid of Starlight Children’s Foundation. The group, with the support of Harrods, has raised over £17,000 so far for the national charity which grants the wishes of seriously and terminally ill children and provides entertainment in hospitals and hospices.

The cycle will be a demanding mission as 80% of the team, made up of civil servants and professionals, did not own a bicycle until 3 months ago. With a punishing training regime, exercising and cycling on their days off and around their work schedules, the team are aiming to complete the ride in 3 ½ days and raise £25,000 on completion.

Aidan and the team have funded the whole project themselves in order to raise as much money as possible for Starlight. Aidan Lewer commented “Starlight is a wonderful charity who read every wish that is sent and support as many families as possible. Whether it’s a trip to a fire station or meeting Mickey Mouse in Euro Disney, Starlight will go that extra mile and I hope the money will raise will help put a smile on many more children’s faces. Harrods has been a huge support and has played an important role in helping us raise as much money as possible.”

Celebrity Chef and Starlight Ambassador, Mickael Weiss, who is a member of the team, commented, “I was immediately inspired by the group’s determination and sense of team spirit and I am delighted that they have allowed me to join them on this challenge. Having seen first hand the difference that a Starlight wish can make to a poorly child and their family, I am proud to be supporting this charity and, in my role as Ambassador, making an active contribution to the efforts of some of its wonderful fundraisers.”

The A1 Media team are delighted that Harrods are supporting the charity Starlight, as this is a charity that we are also keen supporters of.
