Harrods Announces Macmillan Cancer Support as its Chosen Charity for 2012-2014

 

     

Harrods is proud to announce Macmillan Cancer Support as its chosen charity for 2012-2014. With over two million people living with, or beyond, cancer in the UK and the number of new cancer cases in England doubling over the last 40 years, the strain on Macmillan’s resources is increasing.

 

The luxury store will raise as much money as possible over the two year period to help support the charity’s invaluable work through employee fundraising, volunteer days, event sponsorship and charitable initiatives, commencing with The Harrods Crown Auction.

 

To celebrate the announcement, Harrods is auctioning four bespoke crowns from Harrods spectacular Jubilee window displays created by world-renowned designers – Valentino, Roberto Cavalli, Lanvin and Paul Smith. Not only a one-of-a-kind collector’s item, the crowns are also a unique keepsake of this momentous year for London with all of the proceeds going to Macmillan.

 

Katharine Witty, Harrods Group Director of Corporate Affairs, commented, “We all probably know someone who has been affected by cancer in some shape or form – in fact one person is diagnosed with cancer every two minutes. At Harrods we are delighted to be partnering with Macmillan Cancer Support for the next two years to jointly put together exciting activities to raise money and profile their valuable work.”

Harrods will continue to support a number of agreed additional UK charities, both large and small, benefiting a range of causes.
