Gumwand supports Revive & Thrive

 

 

The Revive & Thrive Challenge got off to a flying start with almost 100 towns and cities already registered for the chance of winning £150,000 of revival services to reconnect communities with their high streets.

 

UK manufacturer Gumwand is supplying an innovative, fast and economic gum-removal solution to the winning town or city of the Revive & Thrive Challenge. They are joined by a host of other companies sponsoring the initiative, proving that private investment can deliver instant, sustainable, and positive change for town and city centres and their wider communities.

 

Unsightly discarded gum is a problem in public places throughout the world, and until now, widespread effective removal has been expensive, time-consuming and disruptive. Gumwand removes flattened gum from pavements in less than six seconds per piece, using a combination of steam and ‘green’ detergents. The machine is a simple handheld device that doesn’t require noisy generators or trailing cables, and ensures minimal disruption to the public.

 

The Revive & Thrive Challenge winner’s £150,000 haul will include digital screen window remote media and shop window dressing, alongside the gum-removal from Gumwand. To date there have been nearly 100 expressions of intent for the prize, with more towns and cities across the UK expected to enter before the closing date on 31st January 2014.

 

Councils across the country are already engaging with residents to enter the challenge and revive their high streets. Michelle Clare, Regeneration Project Manager at Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council explains: “It’s been exciting and rewarding to carry out the research we needed to in order to pull our Challenge entry together. We found it motivating to realise the amount of support for us, and for how the community would like to be involved in the long run with support our town team. The Challenge has given us a great opportunity to move our projects forward.”

 

The Revive & Thrive Challenge aims to complement the existing work being carried out nationwide by offering expertise, training and other goods and services that will create an instant impact locally. The challenge demonstrates that private businesses are motivated to help communities become more connected and overcome many of the barriers to change. It enables communities to equip themselves and support development into the future. The challenge prides itself private donations and can be recreated time and time again across the UK.
