EuroShop and JAPAN SHOP present “Project Sunshine for Japan” in Tokyo

EuroShop, The Global Retail Trade Fair, and JAPAN SHOP, International Exhibition for Shop Systems and Fixturing, are continuing their cooperation. Together they now presented the winners of the “Project Sunshine for Japan” competition in Tokyo.

 

Collaboration between the two organisers began with the “EuroShop // JAPAN SHOP Award” in 2011. The aim here was firstly to honour excellent Japanese design with reference to the traditions of this country. Secondly, the initiators wanted to use the new award to draw attention in Europe to specifically Japanese design. Last year’s competition winners were presented both in Düsseldorf at EuroShop and at JAPAN SHOP at a seminar. One day after the seminar in Tokyo the north east of Japan was shaken by a devastating earthquake and a tsunami destroyed vast areas of land triggering the reactor accident at Fukushima.

 

The wave of solidarity with the Japanese people found expression, amongst other things, in the international poster competition “Project Sunshine for Japan”. An international jury made up of renowned graphic artists, designers and university professors selected the best 100 entries from an initial 384 submissions from 40 countries – which were then shown from 1 December 2011 at Düsseldorf Polytechnic. From these, six particularly expressive winning posters were nominated and put on display to a wider audience for the first time at JAPAN SHOP from 6 to 9 March 2012 on the first anniversary of the catastrophe.
