Dragon Boats race in right direction to raise Retail Trust awareness

Some of the crème de la crème of retailers took to the waters on Saturday 29th June when Retail Trust, in conjunction with Ocean Terminal and Leith Rotary, participated in the greatly anticipated Dragon Boat Race.

Over 140 participants took part in the event to raise money for Retail Trust, the charity that helps and supports all three million people working in retail, plus those retired from the sector and its associated businesses.

Bringing the charity’s retail partners together in a fun, positive and engaging way was the order of the day and Debenhams, Harvey Nichols, House of Fraser, Matalan, New Look and Barclays, and joined in with their own crews racing for Retail Trust.

Nicola Steele, Scottish Corporate Partnerships Manager said, “The event was a huge success for us, and it was fantastic to see the phenomenal efforts put in by everyone involved.  It’s a small step in the right direction to building awareness, and to raise crucial funds for Retail Trust.

The Debenhams team “Oarsome” took 3rd place overall, coming in at just over 1 min 20 seconds and the team from New Look, named “Fashion Dolls” aptly picked up the best dressed award for 2013.

Funds raised from the event are still to be finalised; however it is anticipated on average each boat has raised more than £1,500, which will go a significant way to support the work of Retail Trust.
