Display Development in healthy collaboration


The Health Lottery is the biggest new brand launch in the UK for 10 years, a whole new unique lottery concept competing head on with the national lottery, Camelot. After two years of secret development, The Health Lottery decided on a one week maximum impact launch from 24th September with the first draw on 8th October.

Initially they were seeking a supplier for branded till point and multi-function holders for dispensing millions of Playcards and Player Guides to new players nationally. This was then expanded to include floor standing Play Stands. They were specifically seeking a way to distinguish their units from other similar lotteries by giving them a fresh and individual look.


They required a display manufacturer with the necessary design expertise and manufacturing capacity to produce thousands of POS items and stands within an almost impossible deadline of 14 weeks in order to meet the fixed launch date.


Display Developments produced visuals and sample prototypes within 3 weeks. The Health Lottery team made their choice of designs and agreed on three different units. The first was a Till Point Playcard Holder injection moulded 4 tier card holder in clear styrene with full colour printed side graphics, non-slip feet and printed rear header. The second was a Muti-Function Playcard Holder manufactured in clear acrylic with fixings for counter, wall, shelf edge or window fixing. Full colour printed rear header. The final design was for Play Stands fabricated from rigid foam PVC with full colour printed front, sides and rear. Unit included clear injection moulded card and pen holders and mark resistant writing surface


Display Developments then produced and delivered the initial roll-out requirement in just 10 weeks and then introduced night shifts to ensure production was all completed by the launch date.


In the run up to launch, Morrisons, Tesco, W H Smith, Lidl, Co-op, BP, Londis and McColl’s newsagents all signed up to the new lottery.


Following extensive first week media coverage the launch was a huge success with 2 lucky winners scooping £100,000 in the first ever Health Lottery draw
