Datalogic Memors Provide ‘Purfect’ Stock Management Solution for Pets Corner

Memor X3 mobile computers improve productivity by 90% and increase stock accuracy

London, UK – 4th August, 2015 – Datalogic, a global leader in Automatic Data Capture and Industrial Automation markets, and world-class producer of bar code readers, mobile computers, sensors, vision systems and laser marking equipment, has announced today that a roll out of Memor X3 mobile computers with its partner Advanced Retail is helping Pets Corner, a leading UK pet retailer, to dramatically reduce time spent on paper-based processes, improve stock accuracy and concentrate on customer service.

Matt Murtagh, Area Manager at Pets Corner and a key member of the project team that deployed the Datalogic solution explained; “Before implementing the Datalogic Memor devices, our staff were spending a huge amount of time on paper-based stock management tasks.” Every delivery had to be checked in manually, with every item counted and cross checked against a paper manifest. Once the delivery had been checked off, each item had to be manually input into the computer system in order to update the electronic stock file.

“For a large delivery, this process could take up to five or six hours to complete. Now, armed with the Datalogic device, the same activity can be completed in as little as 30 minutes, saving us in excess of 22,000 man hours a year on processing deliveries alone,” commented Murtagh.

Pets Corner carried out a successful pilot project with the Datalogic Memors in a handful of stores in the south region before rolling out a full estate of devices to its 98 stores across the UK. In addition to managing deliveries, the rugged handheld computers are also being used to facilitate stock takes and assist with ‘off shelf’ reports that enable the retailer to better manage stock replenishment and improve stock accuracy.

“We researched a number of devices before choosing the Memors,” continued Murtagh. “However, we were attracted to the compact size of the device compared with competitive models, which would ensure that the computers could be used easily by all members of our team. The devices also featured all the functionality that was required to complete everyday operational tasks including a bar code scanner and batch connectivity so that data collected on the shop floor can be transferred quickly and easily to our back office systems.”

In addition to best-in-class scanning and connectivity options, the Memor X3 mobile computer is IP54 rated to withstand unintended knocks and drops, and exposure to water and dust. The laser scan window is also protected by Corning® Gorilla® Glass 2 and together with Datalogic’s patented ‘Green Spot’ technology guarantees optimum scanning performance.

Mike Doyle, Regional Director UK and Ireland for Datalogic commented, “With the Memor providing productivity savings of up to 90%, the staff at Pets Corner are able to concentrate more time on providing expert advice to pet owners and we are delighted that our technology can play a role in this admirable work.”

“We are constantly examining new ways that the Datalogic Memors can be utilised to improve our in-store and supply chain processes. The service provided by both Advanced Retail and Datalogic has been second to none and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them,” concluded Murtagh.
