Currys PC World signs up to St. Modwen’s Phoenix Retail Park

Another of the country’s leading retailers has confirmed it will open at St. Modwen’s £8 million Phoenix Retail Park in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, leaving just one unit remaining.

Curry’s PC World has announced it will open a 12,100 sq ft superstore at the park which is currently under construction and due to be ready for trading in April. Other high profile brands already signed up are McDonalds, Pets@Home and Smyths Toys.

Phoenix Retail Park is being developed on the former Phoenix Timber Yard site and enjoys a prime position fronting the A50 leading to Longton town centre. It will provide four new retail units totalling 42,100 sq ft together with a McDonald’s restaurant and Drive Thru plus parking for 233 cars.

Mark Webb, Head of Media Relations at Dixons Retail plc, said: “Our new Currys PC World Superstore will boast a sales area of around 10,484 sq ft and is due to open in the early summer.
“We chose Phoenix Retail Park because it presented us with the opportunity to open a brand new refitted store with a strong location on the A50 near to a number of other popular retail outlets.”
St. Modwen received planning permission for the Phoenix Retail Park development last April and commenced construction after securing the initial occupier. The last remaining unit is 7,500 sq ft and St. Modwen is confident of securing the final occupier shortly.

Euan Lindsay, senior development manager for St. Modwen, said the strong retailer interest showed that Phoenix Retail Park would undoubtedly establish itself as a destination retail park for the area:

“Securing such high profile retailers pre-completion has been very encouraging in the present market and clearly demonstrates that the occupiers have recognised both a market demand in the area and the retail park’s excellent edge of centre position, coupled with frontage to the A50.

“Phoenix Retail Park is not only great news for Longton but also the wider Stoke-on-Trent area with the creation of up to 160 jobs at the development. It will be a quality development that will enhance Longton as a retail centre.”
