Bags fit for a Queen on show until June 11 at Sheridan & Co

Shopping bags created for a Jubilee competition – Fit for a Queen – are on show at a free exhibition in London’s West End until June 11. The competition, which was run by luxury packaging expert Wrapology and retail designers Sheridan&Co, was open to all designers and students.

Sixteen bags – including the winning design by Jonny Dempster – are on show at retail designer Sheridan&Co’s space at 10a Blandford Street, Marylebone, alongside 100 of the UK’s notable fashion and beauty retail bags from the past 30 years.

The 16 finalists’ designs were made into bags by Wrapology, with the winner Jonny Dempster’s design – titled 1952 – inspired by the colours of Brighton rock, Whitby beach huts, hundreds & thousands, HM The Queen’s clothes and Mrs. Beeton’s macaroons.

The judges were: BBC News royal correspondent Luisa Baldini; Maxine Benson MBE of EveryWoman; Ian Rooney of Packlab; Julien Sheridan of Sheridan&Co; Tracey Campbell of RedBox; and Roddy Baldwin of Green & Stone.

Julien Sheridan, director at Sheridan&Co said: “Just like royalty and pageantry, the British do shopping and retail as well as any nation. The bags designed to be ‘Fit for a Queen’ are brilliant, witty, clever and a pleasure to look at and hold.

“Congratulations to our finalists and winner, and please do come and visit us up to and including June 11 to see for yourself.”

The Fit for a Queen exhibition is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, up to and including June 11 at 10a Blandford Street, London W1U 4AZ
