Back to school for Nike

GRR has helped create a dedicated area for Nike Sportswear at JD Sports on London’s Oxford Street. GRR’s design seeks to reflect a sporting heritage by creating the ambience of an old-school gym environment. It makes creative use of a number of reclaimed and recycled materials, in addition to specially fabricated items designed to give a retro feel. These included school lockers used to showcase t-shirts, while gym bars are creatively employed for wall merchandising. Reclaimed gym flooring, sourced from a school in Scotland and evocative of 1980’s school gyms when the popularity of Nike Sportswear exploded, is used for fascias, footers, headers and backdrops on the footwear units, and gym benches, again sourced from former school stock, are used for additional display units. The flooring is made from the rubber material found in school gyms throughout the land, and the lighting display incorporates authentic gym hall lamps.
