Applelec open first showroom in Europe to feature LG Display’s OLED light panels
The first of its kind in Europe, Applelec’s new London showroom features a lighting display utilising almost 100 OLED lights and provides an exciting new destination for architects and designers interested in OLED technology.
Designed by LG Display using track mounted modules and contemporary pendant lights from its OLED range, the lighting display can now be seen illuminating the showroom at London’s Business Design Centre. The unique properties of the OLED range, which includes panels with a bending radius of 30mm, provide new opportunities and creative flexibility for designers who are now invited to book visits to the showroom.
Ian Drinkwater, Applelec’s managing director, said: ‘We are delighted to announce the opening of our new London showroom and that Applelec will be delivering LG Display’s OLED range to the UK lighting market. We have been following developments in OLED technology over the last five years, particularly in the light panel sector, and were keen to partner with a company that is leading advancements in this field.’
Sung-Soo Park, Head of LG Display OLED lighting division, said: ‘We are pleased to have a great opportunity to showcase our products in UK with Applelec. Just like the old phrase, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” we encourage people to visit the showroom and feel the superior light quality of OLED light.’
Seen by many experts as providing more human friendly characteristics than other light sources, the OLED panels have no glare, produce no UV and generate a low heat of <35°C, which eliminates the need for heat sinks and diffusers.
The ultra slim OLED light panels, many of which are thinner than a credit card at just 0.88mm, will be available in sizes from 53x55mm to 320x320mm. The range includes a circular panel of 109mm diameter and flexible panels at 200x50mm and 406x50mm which feature a bending radius of 30mm. Delivering CRI levels over 90, the OLED panels are available in 3000K with a 60lm/W efficacy and 4000K with a 55lm/W efficacy.
Applelec have been selected to partner LG Display in the UK due to the success of their award winning LED Light Sheet product; sales of which increased by 20% in 2015. The unit has been specified by leading architects, artists and lighting designers for projects including the redevelopment of the Hammersmith Apollo, Foster + Partners first hotel venture, ME London, and, Mulberry’s Bond Street flagship by DPA Lighting Design.
