AirPOS Partners with Casio to Launch World’s First Android ePOS Device


The ePOS industry is long overdue due a shake up. With retail in steep decline across many sectors, retailers and technology providers alike have little choice but to innovate their way out of the mire. A Belfast-based start up and a Japanese corporation may seem like unlikely bedfellows, but the combined brainpower of AirPOS and Casio has created what might well be the most disruptive device to hit the retail ePOS market in a decade.

The launch of the world’s first Android electronic point of sale (ePOS) device took place at the Retail Business Technology Expo in Earls Court, London. Casio, one of the world’s largest corporate hardware manufacturers announced the release of the VX-100 Android ePOS terminal running AirPOS, the world-changing POS solution from the Belfast-based start-up.

AirPOS worked alongside Casio and integrated their revolutionary ePOS application for Android into this smartly engineered, all-in-one ePOS platform that processes sales and captures customer data at the point of sale. At the launch Martin Neill, CEO and co-founder of AirPOS, said, “Cloud ePOS deserves a dedicated cloud-based platform and for the first time this is now possible.”  Dr Guy Boxall, Senior Product Marketing Manager at Casio echoed these thoughts and explained:

The traditional EPOS terminal has hardly changed in 30 years, but consumer habits have moved on. Now the leading operating system on smart phones, “taking Android to the retail environment is an exciting development for the industry” according to Mr Neil. AirPOS director, investor and ex Senior Vice President of AOL and Cisco Systems Dr David Kirk added his thoughts:

“Just think of the opportunities high street shops may benefit from by using the Android platform; loyalty cards that sync with shoppers social networks, the ability to see when shoppers check in to their stores on Foursquare, or even the possibility of paying with your smartphone and then wirelessly receiving your receipt. AirPOS have revolutionised the retailer, making ePOS a more sophisticated sales and business management tool.”

As the first dedicated ePOS system operating Android, the Casio VX-100 has a low cost of entry, there are no licensing fees and all development tools are free of charge. For the retailer, this solution provides a faster and more stable platform than has been in the market, and ends Microsoft’s long held domination of the space.

The VX-100 is designed for use in a wide selection of retail environments including independent retail stores, multi-nationals, restaurants, bars, educational establishments and service centres. When teamed with AirPOS the system works as both a standalone device or as part of a networked system. The VX-100 ePOS system may be a little black box on the outside, but inside lies the awesome power and versatility of cloud computing. Retailers should rejoice.
