24 hour Comic Relief fundraising marathon at Beaumont Shopping Centre

A team of staff from Beaumont Shopping Centre and Subway are planning a 24 hour fundraising marathon for Comic Relief next week.

The event will kick off at 10pm on Thursday 14 March with a sleepout at the Centre’s Buttercross followed by a mammoth 14 hour cycle ride on Friday 15 March.

Subway branch owner Rachana Pancholi challenged Beaumont’s manager Sarah Duffin to join her sleeping out in the Centre to highlight the conditions that many of the people Comic Relief helps have to sleep in.

Sarah Duffin said “It’s going to be a really tough challenge for Comic Relief this year but I’m going to put on my red nose and my pyjamas and brave the March weather to sleep out at the Buttercross. We are hoping our shoppers will join us to help raise money for such a good cause.”

The second phase of the fund raising will start bright and early at 8am on Friday 15 March when the team will attempt to ride 301 miles – the equivalent of Leicester to Paris on exercise bikes. There is an exercise bike in Subway and one outside so shoppers can join in the cycle as well.

They will be joined by European championship gold medal pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale at 10am who will help by clocking up some miles for the team in the cyclathon.

The team are looking to raise sponsorship from retail staff in the centre as well as family and friends but they are looking to raise £3000 to help fight poverty in the UK and Africa
